Dogs beat Dees in U19s

Sydney weather seems to love footy as we had another beautiful sunny day as the Bulldogs took on Pennant Hills at home.

The Bulldogs were looking to improve their effort after the previous week’s performance where the boys “didn’t turn up ” according to Coach Kevin Dyson.

The players responded to that feedback, as excellent ball movement in the centre led to lots of opportunities up forward, including the opening goal. Thomas Baxter then slotted the second goal after being held in the goal score, before following that up with some good roving work in the forward 50 to kick his second.

The Bulldogs were hot in the first quarter, with scores 30- 12 at quarter time, and took this momentum on to the paddock as they ran out for the second term. Their running game opening up Hills’ defence who could not match them through the middle, and the Dogs calmly slotted another four majors to be up by six goals at half time.

After the long break, Pennant Hills responded with the first goal of the second half and an attempt to steady the sinking ship. The red, white and blue weren’t letting up though, kicking two goals and showing their defence was strong, stopping multiple attempts on goal. The Demons had six scoring results for only one six-pointer, going into the final change with a 40-point deficit.

The final quarter saw both teams tire, and while the boys found more space, neither could get on top of the other as they traded goals. Bulldogs ended the match with the final two goals to finish well, deserving of how they had played across the day.

Dyson said the result was pleasing, but urged the team to do more if they wanted to see success in 2017.

“Today, win, lose, draw it didn’t matter’ said Dyson. “Are we going to apply ourselves, are we going to put our heads over the footy, put that effort in for four quarters? If we do that, the results will come.”
